Managed to douse myself with boiling goose fat last week.. spent 4 hours in A&E and have been given daily dressings to apply to the affected leg.. however.. 4 days on the wound is still 'seeping' (ughhhh I KNOW). should I take the dressing off and let the air get to it.. or is this encouraging infection... yours sincerely.. girl in agony dot com... (PS Never cooking again... Where's the Dominio's takeaway menu...)

OK.....well, i don't really think it matters what you do and the above posters are quite correct.
What would i do?
As you haven't told me what the dressings consist of, I would use Tulle Gras dressings (which you can get from the chemist) and change them everyday for another 3 or 4 days and then after that, leave it open and just put the dressing on at night.
From the sound of the damage and assuming you are not an old person, it should settle down within a couple of weeks.
The pain is a concern...."bash" the Ibuprofen.
if the pain gets worse over the next few days and the area around the burn becomes red and tender......go back to A&E.

The NHS website seems to suggest that the dressing should be changed every few days but makes no mention of 'airing' the wound (which doesn't surprise me as such an approach seems to have fallen out of favour with all but 'old wives'):
"Your dressing will be checked after 24 hours to make sure there are no signs of infection. It will be changed after 48 hours, and then every three to five days until it is completely healed."

It's some sort of jellyish mesh (chucked the box away so no help there).. and then some absorbant pads.. bloody hurts when it's changed... shame the hospital couldn't diagnose 'oramorph' to take home... it was good enough in the cold shower for an hour.. they should let me have some here!!!... anyhoo.. waiting for the son to come home to re-upholster the leg... thank you for your advice...
