In the centre of Sorrento overlooking the sea there is the Foreigners bar (drink meal and dance), just ask any tourist and they will tell you, well worth a visit or three. If you have not been before you will enjoy. you can get a local train to Pompie (?) and Herculenium/Vesuvius. make sure you visit Capri (Ferry) and Amalfi (either bus one way and hydrofoil the other). This maybe not the answer you are looking for but hope it helps.
I agree - it's a really good place and cheap: try some of the nearby places such as St Agnello where you dont pay the tourist premium. Local trains are excellent. I also went to Rome for the day from Sorrento/Naples - fast and cheap: you can book in Sorrento.
I just came back from italy, and i stayed at a hotel in Sorrento, but only spent time in Pompei and Capri. I would definitely recommend going to Pompei to see the ruins from when Vesuvius erupted because it was absolutely amazing. Capri is an island only about 20min. from Pompei and it is really nice thereas well. I went on a boat tour around the island which was really interesting, it is also really nice on the island...there are a bunch of gardens. Hope you have a good time!!

Bar ~ chaplins (later better) can be fun. Smaller and more intimate than the nearby English bar. In fact the italian owners remember us when we go back. And provided taxi service around 2.00am when we couldn't find a taxi (great/cheesy video juke box too)

Previous responder mentioned the Foreigners bar which is lovely in the afternoon or for cocktails to watch the sun go down. There is a fantastic pizzeria in one of the back streets behind chapling ~ at the smaller square when you would walk down the hill to the foreigners club, instead take a left ~ there are one or two good restaurants there anyway, but continue down the narrow lane and you will come to the pizzeria. Chairs outside, small bar across the road, proper pizza oven inside. Best mozzerella there as well. We found a piano bar near the main square as well. Pompeii very easy to get to on the train ~ go early with good walking shoes and lots of water. We were unsuccessful in getting a bus to do the Amalfi coast (all full very quickly). So we arranged for a driver for the day (great guy called Aldo). Although expensive, it meant that we could stop where we wanted and he recommended a fantastic family run restaurant in Ravello (we would never have found it). Aldo is quite well known, tall distinguished man, so if you need a driver. The only restaurant we had a poor experience in was one that is called favourite ~ near english bar. When went there a few years ago was fab, and the setting is wonderful, but last year was terrible ~ and had saved it for our last night. Have a wonderful time.
