I got a bit of 'we dont want these grockles ' crap in Cornwall,
and my brother said, just wait a minute, we pay your wages.....

I was waiting for: really well we need a pay rise then.... in which case i would respond - yeah but you have to be a bit more polite .....
Looks OK - lots of water....
but as someone said - you cant eat the scenery....
Agree with Baldric, loud isn't for mealtimes, but then again it depends on the restaurant!
Ah! But it only says 'loud Americans' so those not loud could enter the premises?
Well I can understand the reaction as en masse, just like Brits, Germans, you name it, we can be boorish.

When living in Paris, I had a friend over from the UK who, fortunately, spoke French very well for that is what we did when confronted with being pestered. The restaurant we were in, well the doors open and in walk six Americans, dressed in their national camouflage of loud, uncoordinated colours..

(i) No attempt at a 'Bonjour' just the assumption someone would talk in English.
(ii) Does this restaurant serve steak? We'll have it well done (an anathema to any French chef)
The classic then to follow this:
(iii) Does this restaurant serve wine? The response after but Yes, "Yes it does, well then we'll have a bottle of sweet white wine."

Pass the sick bowl, Alice, and bring on the Maniscewitz wine......

Speaking in French was definitely the right action to take.
sorry, Manischewitz wine and my first line was a bit screwed up.....not 'we' but the Amercians....
