No point in it at all and indeed obviously political ( we had previously refused a public enquiry) everyone knows who killed him, and that Russia won't extradite him, so unless we want an extra excuse to sanction Russia or go to war with them then it really is futile. I actually thought we should have one but not under these cynical circumstances.
Coincidence.

// British Home Secretary will not appeal the decision of the London court this week that supported the extraordinary appeal of the widow of former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko, told the representative of the minister.
On Tuesday, the court considered the arguments presented earlier by May insufficient to refuse to conduct public hearing on the Litvinenko case and gave time to the British authorities on Friday to provide a more compelling arguments or to appeal, otherwise the solution will not be able to stay in power.
"Minister decided not to appeal the court's decision on this case. We carefully analyze the decision and the government continues to cooperate fully with the coroner's inquest on the case of Mr. Litvinenko’s death". //

" however, I do think that Israel's invasion of the Gaza strip has been cynically slid under the MH370 fallout."
Maybe, but didn't Israel announce in advance that it was planning a ground offensive?
An odd thing to do at the best of times, but surely undermines the charge that they were trying to sneak in on the back of other news.
As for the Litvinenko affair, I had a double take about this when I heard about it yesterday of all days. I'm sure it is a coincidence. I can't think why they would deliberately choose yesterday as opposed to later. It's certainly one-up for the justice system versus government, which tried to suppress an enquiry partly, avowedly because they didn't want to harm international relations, plainly grossly underestimating Putin's capacity to do just that far more effectively!
It's doubly bad news for Vlad because not only will it rake up the whole thing again, and quite rightly so, but it will also remind everyone of why Litvinenko in particular was targeted in the first place.
