The Channel Islands are sometimes included within the term 'British Isles' even though they are not part of the archipelago which actually make up this entity.

The Bailiwick of Jersey is a Crown Dependency and as such is not a part of the UK nor the European Union.

Jersey belonged to William of 1066 fame, So you could say, that Britain and the Empire that was, really belonged to Jersey, and not the other way around.
