Thank you all for your answers. let me explain, i made a mistake by saying weekendS this was going to be a one off. i offered to to pay my firm for any fuel used and told them that i needed the van because i had told a recently disabled friend that i would remove his bath and install a shower cubicle ( for free!!! ) i was amazed to be told that there could be no exceptions to the rule. Spaced i would like to see you get a shower tray, cubicle and all other bits and pieces in your car or on a bus!!!!! scotstone Funnily enough my van IS white. londontown, i have spoken to a mechanic and he agrees with you ( good advice, thanks) Spaced you are a tad santimonious and need to lighten up man.
It's not far removed from theft, the company has rules, and as an employee you should stick to them.
While it may seem petty not to let you use it, just for 1 weekend, what's to stop someone else saying "Well, he used it for the weekend, why can't I", and before you know it, everyone will want to use a van for the weekend.
Personally I wouldn't take the chance, and hire a van for the day.
At weekends, our estate looks like an extention of the local Ford dealers forecourt, with Transit's (and other fine makes of commercial vehicles) taking up every spare inch of road. It looks like a form of advertising with anything from double glazing to office plants........
