The 'Kitchen Terrorist' has just struck.

I heard the Aga door 'click' - having told the mater that dinner would be around 8.15-20, the roast chicken out at 8.

Sure enough, everything had been pulled out, roasted potatoes, a root veg purée and some sweetcorn.....

I go to put it back in and find a can of dog food and one of cat at the back.

Anybody any recipes for these, bearing in mind I have a book about Alzheimers from a carer's perspective under draft, the serious points being the chronology of events, keeping ahead of the 'game', tips to carers and to bring out some of the humour in all of this, and this one's up there as I can have a field day on drafting the story....?

I once held a party and all the 'nibble's' got eaten when it was still in full swing and everyone was ***.
I found a box of fish flavour dry cat food and put it out in bowls, they ate the lot and asked what it was, I told everyone it was a Japanese fish flavour delicacy and very expensive. To this day I have never let on they were eating 'Katkins Chunks'
I meant to ask you how your book was progressing DTC, you mentioned it a while back.
Is it inappropriate to laugh?
Having watched my own poor mother struggle through this dreadful disease I think it is true to say that if you didn't laugh then you'd cry - until your heart broke.
There's room for humour ummmm & sadness.
Bless her! With all due respect, dt, it doesn't say much for your cooking, if she thinks the dog food smells better;-)
My eyes are playing up DTC - I initially thought you were looking for recipes to cook the dog and cat.

Cat food stinks quite a bit - you would have to mask the smell with something strong. Maybe try some of Eddie's cat biscuits.
This is truly tragic....but very, very funny.

I once defrosted some cauliflower soup. This was to be the starter for a meal with friends. They tucked in and I could tell by their faces something was wrong. What I had defrosted and served up was bechamel sauce
had the mater pierced the tins dt? ;)
So did I ,wolf63. I'm not sure about recipes for dog and cat food but don' recommend Katkins - many years ago was feeding my mum's cat and absentmindedly licked the spoon...yuk
^^ Dog and cat food manufacturers have human 'tasters' who have to do as the job title suggests and taste every batch.

No sloopy, thank goodness - and they had only just been put in, so no chance to burst either.

I find it all rather funny, laughing more at the condition than the person, though there are times that she realises that she has pulled a daft stunt and laughs too.., so, ummmm, you can split your sides, as I have this evening - at least it wasn't as bad as the cat food paté, me being clever in getting one of those pouches instead of Whiskas cans and getting it served up with one of her 'infamous' salads.

And I still don't have an answer (or logic) to why the animal cans were put in the Aga!
Does your mother actually have a cat?

Question Author
yes wolf - but she can't remember the names of her pets, her grandchildren and a couple of us, her kids.
what wine would you recommend to go with this course?
DTC - does the cat interact with your mother than it would have done to her prior to her dementia? I know that some species of animals treat autistic kiddies differently.

It is sad that we can do so much in this world but we still find the need to start wars and we haven't worked out how to ensure that the brain keeps going until the body finally gives out. It is a cruel disease for both the person with dementia and for the family that loves and cares for that person.

this one, Lady J....? http://www.longue-dog.com/

Not that I have seen re the cat, wolf. The dog, yes, more protective to her as to strangers - he's okay with me now.....
very good.
