Mr M has just been to se the practice nurse for a check-up re his diabetes and blood pressure. His BP reading was 190 over 50. Nursey went out to see the doc, came back in with instuctions for a blood test and appointment to see the doctor next week. Mr M didn't 'think' to ask why the panic, can any of you good folks help?

The BP ( top one systolic) is quite high and the diastolic (bottom one ) is a bit low, but cannot see how a blood test can help with that problem.
Not sure that there is a "panic".
The blood test will show if he has behaved himself re. his diabetes over the past 3 months.
No big deal.

Strange readings - Systolic is quite high and Diastolic is quite low - normal readings would be Systolic below 120 and Diastolic below 80. A Systolic reading of 190 would be considered to be a Hypertensive Crisis and should be investigated urgently.
The Blood Test covers all sorts of things in addition to the Diabetes test - things like Kidney function etc - this is normal procedure.

I don't know if this helps but recently I went for my check up and the Dr. took my blood pressure and said it was high but then he said lets try another cuff. The first one was not very wide. The second one was wider and it read perfectly normal and the Doctor said sometimes if the cuff is to narrow it does not give a proper reading.
