The Most Easterly Part Of The Usa

This is the question in today's pub quiz in the Daily Telegraph. The answer given is Maine but I think this is wrong as I believe it to be Alaska. Anybody agree

Alaska is the most northerly,eastern and westerly state of the USA. Hawaii is the most southerly.
Some of the answers on here are a bit dodgy. Back to the Geography books for some of you

I must be missing a cunning subtlety as to how Alaska can be simultaneously most Easterly and Westerly!

I think it is something to do with the antimeridian, east meets west.

The US Virgin Islands don't even come close.

The answer is Alaska, or to be more precise the most westerly extreme of the Aleutian Islands - Rat Islands, Near Islands, and the farthest west, Attu Island. Although situated to the east of the International Date Line (because it "weaves" to leave all of the USA in the same hemisphere) these islands all lie on the opposite side of 180 degrees longitude (i.e. in the Eastern Hemisphere).

This has been a good "pub quiz" question for many years.
