Unusual Slug Bait!

On going to bring in some hard cat food that had got left out in the rain,for about an hour..I found it covered in slugs! This was about a month ago too,and so not even into the dreaded slug invasion time! Maybe this could be a good way to attract them,and "rehome" !! I always feel guilty drowning them in beer traps!

Yep and what a terrible waste of beer too, I think you could have stumbled on some thing here, so long as it dont attract unwanted virmin or all the cats in the neighbourhood.

I found last year old pine needles from under cedar trees made a good mulch and kept the slugs from eating my hostas.

What a good idea linda. We sometimes put some hard dog food out for our visiting foxes but I'll try putting some near my hosta shoots. Then I can collect all the slugs up and put them near my little pond to give the frogs a good breakfast !

Bread works a treat. Watched my dad do this last summer and about 10 appeared in no time. Something to do with the yeast I think.

I take it,the bread has to be wet CT, makes the yeast smell more? Any "beat the slugs" tips are invaluable,thanks folks.
