Stomach Reduction Surgery
4 Answers
I have heard about a new procedure whereby the stomach is reduced in a less intrusive way without major surgery. The patient is in some cases an outpatient.
Does anyone have any experience they would care to share
Many thanks

But he only has about 4 holes on his abdomen where they went in. Sorry that this is not that informative. But he has lost at least 10 stone in weight, no longer has diabetes, no longer takes the number of pills he was taking for weight. The only tablet he takes now is multi vitamins.
The two main ways in the UK are by laparotomy (opening the stomach) or more commonly now laparoscopically ( non invasive or I would describe as minimally invasive) ....BUT it can be done endoscopically ( no incisions and down a scope via the mouth)
The latter is a big deal in the US of A particularly in New Jersey, but has not become popular in the UK.......yet.
I think that you are referring to the endoscopic approach.

I had a gastric sleeve done laporoscopically but I was in hospital for 3 days afterwards.
There is anew procedure being tested at the mo where they place a "balloon" through your mouth and down into your stomach. It is then filled with air. There is no overnight stay in hospital required. However,it is a temporary procedure and the balloon is removed after 3 months. It's mainly being used for those with diabetes who are around 3 stone overweight.
