Hi, friends:
Would any one explain to me about family law about divorce? My husband and I are in the divorce process. He had violent record towards to me in the police as someone else reported him to the police, however, I dropped the case for the benefit of our future family life. He has no criminal record. Now we don't think we can live together anymore. We have been married for 14 years and a 4 years old kid. As he also manipulates my kid and do whatever my kid likes and also turned my kid against me, in someway, my kid likes him more then me. He has bought the house before we met and paid all the bills. I am currently no working. Can anyone tell me whether I am entitled half of his assets and custody of my kid? I appreciate if you explain to me from family law point of view.

BJ, you need a solicitor. You both do, really. Do you have a solicitor?

I don't have a solicitor currently. What is your suggestion?
Others may advise otherwise but you have the complexity of your child and the house being owned by your husband - and he will need to support the child for some years yet, whether the child lives with you or the father. Go to the Citizens Advice Bureau and ask for some advice about family law solicitors in your area.
My friend in in the early stages of a non-amicable divorce. Her solicitor has been invaluable both in terms of advice and in boosting my friend's confidence.
Magistrate divides financial assets, beginning with 50/50. Children under 18 remain with mother unless she has proved drug/alcohol abuse. Father pays CSA.

Please do not try to do this yourself. You must have a family law solicitor. As you are not working and have a young child you are very likely to be entitled to some legal aid with the costs.

As someone else has said, contact Citizens Advice Bureau & get their advice, including information about family law solicitors in the area who do work on legal aid.
