at present I am on dial up access and am thinking of changing to broadband. I have done the USwitch thing and am now even more confused.
I would be grateful for any advice as to what i should look out for, best provider etc

Whenever I have to work on a PC with dial-up internet now, it makes me feel like it's stealing my life from me......... ok, I exaggerate, but it does make you want to tear your hair out!
If you're in a cable area, I recommend Telewest... they may be a little more expensive than some of the ADSL offerings over a BT line, but they are superbly reliable, and offer 4MB uncapped useage as a basic package.
