Hi All, Just wondering if anyone knows the situation living on your own land. I am looking at buying some land and putting one of those wood chalet type bungalows on it to live in as I can not afford to buy a property and fed up with renting. I found out you do not need planning permission to erect one of these as they are transportable apparently. Before I go through all of this I was wondering if anyone knew anymore details on it. There was a programme on a few weeks ago about an ex gypsy woman doing this and she had done the exact same thing. Any information would be so much appreciated
You may be able to erect it, but you would still have to apply for change of use permission to live in it. Councils are reluctant to give this because once the land has permissions to be lived on, it is easier to get building approvals.
You need to find a piece of land and discuss it with the relevant council before you buy. Some land it would never be allowed.
Reply to your comment bednobs, buying some land and a chalet does not cost no where near as much as buying a house and it would be mortgage free. Of course we would need utilities ie: electric etc but that comes after the permission is granted if granted
What I find very wrong is when someone has a piece of land for years and is not allowed to do anything with it, no chance of ever getting planning or any other type of permission.
Then when they sell their land some rich developer gets permission overnight!
