Long story short...

I bartered with my car insurers when my renewal was up as I had seen cheaper quotes elsewhere and had been charged 60 in admin fees for changing details in previous year. Guy on the phone promised lower monthly payment, lower excess and no admin fees for 06/07. When I got home from hols to open paperwork monthly fee was higher than promised, as was excess, and no guarantee of no admin fees. Complained to insurer, they said those promises wouldn't have been made, and if I want to cancel to policy I have to pay 55 fee. Do I have to go through the insurers complaints procedure before I go to the FSA? Do I have a case as I didn't get the name of the person who made the promises?? I do have the calls recorded as being received on my mobile (albeit from a private number) and my mother was there as a witness when the calls were made to me. Any help appreciated.

They clearly stated all my rights including distance selling regulations (Ithink - notes are at work) and that on receipt of documents if I was not happy I could cancel in 14 days (although regs state 7 days). You only pay for the days insured in that period.
