I received a phone call yesterday from 'Sky' saying that my viewing card was expiring next week and that they wanted to send me a new one.
They confirmed my name and address, then asked for my D.O.B for security. They then said that as it was a new viewing card they wanted to confirm my banking details.
Thinking this was a bit peculiar I asked them to tell me what sort code they had all ready and I would confirm if it was the correct one. The person then became a bit edgy and said that they would send a form with the viewing card for me to confirm my details. After giving them a reason my I didn't want to give my sort code over the phone, they hung up.
Here's the important bit!!
I've just called Sky customer services and they stated plainly that they would never make this call, as the viewing cards do not expire.
So please please please pass this on to as many people as you can, as this seems to be one of many telephone scams doing the rounds at the moment. I hope this stops anyone getting a nasty shock on their bank statements!
Damn! I was just about to send you an email, Stephen_G, telling you about a Nigerian prince who would like to borrow your bank account to make a discreet transaction but who would, of course, vastly increase your bank balance afterwards. I'm now beginning to think that I shouldn't bother!
Lol. I wouldn't give bank details to someone who has rung me- but i know many who have and do (often my elderly clients). The more people that know, the better.
I keep getting phone calls from 'sky' telling me my warranty has expired on my sky box and for £29.99 I can renew for a year. In their dreams. A whistle by the phone comes in handy.
thanks Stephen G good to know about all scams, its easy if you are having a bad day to get caught unawares, I don't have Sky but have put on my Facebook to warn my friends.
Ignore any calls from Sjy. In fact, ignore SKY altogether ! You can get all the main channels on Freeview, without taking all the crap ones, and its free !
