Any help please to get over the loss of my 15 year old Westie? I am too old to get a very young dog and can't afford the vet bills that come with an oldie.
Thanks for any help'

go look in rescue centre..bound to be a nice wee in betweener looking for a good home !
I'm so sorry that you've lost your little dog, it must leave a big hole in your life. If you do find a suitable pet and will have trouble taking it for walks, contact The Cinnamon Trust, they find volunteers to help with dog walking (also foster care during hospital stays etc)
Please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your Phoebe.
If you are able, rescue centres always need volunteers to walk and socialise their resident dogs.
My OH and I have great empathy with you, it's a very sad time when a long loved pet goes to the big kennel in the sky.

We had to have our 12 yr old Westie put down 5 years ago, still miss him like mad.

Thank you all for good suggestions I don't feel I could cope with another dog. Phoebe was my shadow! Couldn't go through that again. I live in the country and don't drive so can't help at kennels but I will contact Cinnamon Trust and see if they need help anywhere near me.
Many thanks to you all.
So sorry to hear that, elderly. It's heartbreaking. Good luck with finding another little friend to spend time with xx
May Phoebe be a light in the sky...
My condolences, elderly I know just how you feel.We lost Max a GSD just over two years ago and he was like your Phobie he went everywhere with us.We'd love another dog but we know we're both not really in a position to give one the attention and time they need
If you do feel you could help another dog, the Oldies Club specialise in finding homes for elderly dogs that are in desperate need of a good home for their last few months or years. Often with older dogs rescues will help with vets bills - in fact I have rehomed one this week with someone in our breed after her owner died - our Welfare scheme is paying for any medication she might need and although she may not have many months left she will at least be loved and cared for during her twilight years.
The Oldies Club are also always on the lookout for people to foster the dogs for short periods and to assess them to help them find the right forever home. http://www.oldies.org.uk/
See if you might help other people with dog walking etc., while you make up your mind about welcoming a new dog to your home?
what about fostering? there are lots of dogs unable to cope with kennels and just need a bit of 'time out' until the right forever home comes along - that way you'd be helping more than one unwanted pet over the years. I do appreciate everyone isn't able to deal with handing the animal back then taking a new one on but it may be worth thinking about.
Awww bless your heart elderly xxx

I concur with rsvp, fostering could help ease your pain.
I am sorry to hear about your loss. It is never easy, but you have had some good advice. Helping with other dogs might help with your loss.

I too am an oldie and lost my beloved shar pei at 14,three weeks after this my hubby died, he was very ill but he never got over loosing his pet which we brought home at twelve weeks, then one year later our shar pei cross staffy rescue whom we had for over ten years went over the rainbow bridge too, its awful to come to an empty house, but like you too old to start again and cope with vet bills, I am seriously thinking of fostering but I am such a softie I wont be able to hand back, so now I offer to have friends animals whilst they go on holiday so I know its short time and don't get too attached.
My sympathy to you and I know exactly what you are going through. I lost my beauitful Rough Collie Ben today. He would have been 14 in November. I am hearbroken...... love to you xxx
