I keep getting a prompt to download something called sien s.a. to improve the performance of my lap top. Up to now I have always rejected it. My google search suggests it's a French company. Has anybody come across this? Is it safe?

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, simply because anything that suddenly announces itself on your computer should be treated with extreme caution!

If you're getting messages about something that you've not already got on your computer, they're almost certainly being generated by malware. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

(When installing it, take care to deselect the option to take a free trial of the 'Premium' version. When it finds malware, as it almost certainly will, select the 'Quarantine' option).


That should get rid of the messages you've been seeing.

There is no magic cure to improve the performance of a PC.

There are things you can do to tidy it up, and also stop unwanted programs starting, but these often only give a small speed improvement.

Certainly I would not download anything that prompts itself to be installed and says it will speed up your PC That is a sure way to get viruses, malware and other nasties on your PC.

That is a bit like opening your front door and asking anyone who walks past into your house, and you have no idea who they are.

Always be VERY wary of any software you download and install and ask about it on here first before doing so.
