Just read that Robin Williams has been found dead at his home - aged 63.He was one of my favourite actors.

Not sure of the point you are making tambo - but the notion that wealth gets you help when you need it is erronious - people need to know how desparate you are, and as advised, hiding the condition is one of the first rules.

As for 'planning' - he may well have done so, but why would that be so odd?

We are talking someone living with the unliveable - so time plan an exit is perfectly feasible.

A friend of my grandmother's planned his suicide by express train a year before he completed it - all meticulously detailed in a diary which no-one in his family knew he kept until it was found after his death.

Nailit, for the pressure it puts on loved ones. 2 youngsters here have followed their parental suicide, as has a mother done same after her son's suicide.

The method is not about killing yourself, it's about killing the pain, which is why some people use violent methods - one last hit back at the uncontrolable and inescapapable despair.

No-one who kills themselves is thinking of the most apropriate method for anyone left behind.

Poor thing, hanging himself. I had a cousin who did this and it will haunt me forever.

royfromaus - suicide attempts fail for a variety of reasons, but be assured, anyone who is determined to die, really determined, will die in the end, unless they are reached, by part of their own mind, or by someone who can get through.

Believe me, I think you wrestle with the 'do I?' or 'don't I' right up to the last few seconds, the planning, tambo, is actually fairly easy. It was my two that brought me back off the edge, not in person but in thought. Okay, one can argue about how close I was but a belt, and looped, hanging off a beam, I would say is close enough.

I have a few failed suicides in my past, I am never that far from trying again, the fear of failing again is pretty much the only thing that stops me.

Rest in Peace Robin Williams .Im old enough to remember Mork and mindy it was an awful show .Robin did some great work but his sad demise does not improve mork and mindy in my opinion . It started off a great talent and we are thankful for that .

For those who castigate I can only hope that you yourself are never in the position of your own private hell and at such a depth of despair that you feel there is only one possible outcome.

That is in all probability how most suicides feel at that terrible moment.
