Reconfiguring of ECU after air filter replacement

I've just installed replaced the air filter on my Mazda 6 with a drop in filter from K&N. Does my ECU have to be reconfigured to account for the higher airflow ? Thanks.

Yes you will need to reconfigure it to deal with the fact that you now have more air going into you petrol/air mix prior to the burn. It should work fine but to get the best I'd get it done. Check to back end of any good car mag to find an ECU tuner. Whilst you're doing that probably best to get it upgraded then you can get extra horses!

I'm afraid charlieroker has it all wrong. You will not need to touch the ecu and I advise you to leave it well alone as it ivalidate any warranty. The air flow meter which measures the air entering the engine will tell the ecu how much air is going in and then the ecu will know how much fuel to inject via the injectors. The small difference a K&N filter makes is well within the capability of the engine management system to look after.
