To UglyUncle, I interpret that clause to mean 'whose common definition and common length are not shown'. Changing 'lack' to 'share' would have been more accurate.

I agree with UglyUncle about the inaccuracies in 16 and 21 (I assume he's taking cryptic grammar). I'd noted 21 while solving, but overlooked the error in 16.

1 across was my last clue to crack. Having spent a lot of time looking at all the relevant definitions in Chambers I reckon you could maybe replace the misprinted letter in two different places and still get the clue to work.

First Listener I have had time (and the ability) to finish for a few weeks. I had decided the final bit was a little bizarre, but the odd comment here has reassured me. Incidentally, I am back in touch with Cruncher (I had gone away for the weekend).
