I explained Science for 17d earlier:

SC = that is (Latin). Then EN (bridge players) in ICE (diamonds).
Chambertin (chamber + tin). Answer's a wine from Burgundy.

Sorry quizmonkey.I found your answer after I had posted. I usually check before posting.Just need 16down and 20across now. I have solved the others.
Quizmonkey : just to be a pedant id est (i.e) is "that is" in Latin . Scilicet or sc means "to wit"
20a EG(say)MONT(h)
16 d .....Agent Noun.

Sorry, patsyann. I should have included an answer for 16d, wwhich has previously been answered.

Agent No un

ulysses100, just to be a pedant also: we are working in English here, not Latin, and 'that is' and 'to wit' (also 'namely' ) are synonymous in English, to all intents and purposes. All three terms crop up in crosswords on a regular basis and solvers should consider both 'ie' and 'sc' as forming part of the answer in all cases.
