I can't help feeling that some people relish the thought of it all coming out in the wash. I agree with Minty. Casting aspersions before any evidence that might be available has been examined is quite disgraceful.

It has been proven in previous cases, that people are encouraged to report old incidents of sexual abuse, once the subject is broached in public. Its a pity that we can't turn the clock back, to the days and weeks before Savile died. Judging by the drivel that was said at the time of his death, you could have been forgiven for thinking that Mother Teresa or Helen Keller had died again. I'm surprised that he wasn't carried down the Thames on a gunboat, draped in the Union Jack.
People of course did report that they had been abused by Savile, as boys did when they were abused by Cyril Smith, but where did it get them ? Is it so difficult to understand why the victims weren't taken seriously ? These popular personalities were treated like living saints, and Smith still is by some people in Rochdale.
I don't know whether Richard is guilty or not, just like everybody else, including the Police at this stage, but if this carries on like the other high-profile cases, then we should all know more quite soon. Fame is a two-edged sword, as the rich and famous are finding out.

I read a theory today that the police were ordered from 'up high' to leak the search of his apartment to the press in order to scupper any chance of this going to trial - apparently to not only protect Cliff but many other senior politicians, members of the royal family, senior police personnel and various lords, wealthy celebs who contribute to the political parties, Tom Cobley and all.
There is no doubt some people are enjoying this - almost as a soap opera rather than real life.
I fear it is impossible for justice to be done in these cases. The only evidence is the verbal testimony of both parties and whatever the result there will always be people who believe it was the wrong verdict.

Investigations into some high profile abusers have been stymied in the past, Savile and Smith are just two. Savile was investigated many times, and on each occasion his fame and close relationship with the Police counted in his favour. But nobody seriously doubts that his is innocent now.
In the case of Smith, one investigation was raided by MI5, and all evidence was removed and never seen again. For this reason alone I am quite happy for all this to be done as much in public as possible, other the spooks will strike again. As regards to Richard, I can't see that anything that has happened recently will disallow any future trial, just as it won't in the future trials of Glitter, Denning, and DLT.
I have said this before but please take the trouble to read Simon Danczuk's book about Cyril Smith ..."Smile for the Camera" - the Secret life of Cyril Smith" It will make your hair stand on end.

Forgot to add.....and we are still waiting for a new person to be named to head the much-heralded Enquiry into historical child abuse. There has been plenty of time to find someone and get the Enquiry under way. Some of victims are now quite old and they need justice before they die. Perhaps we should have held onto Butler-Sloss after all, as this now has all the appearances of being kicked into the long grass, which is absolutely disgraceful. dave should return from faffing around in Cornwall and pull his bally finger out.
