We bought a Kettle it failed 10 months into the 2 year warranty ,the item was replaced by the store,What happens to the warranty if the kettle fails again ?
All answered gratefully received.
I believe the original warranty stands. Therefore the replacement Kettle is under warranty for 2 years less the 10 months of the original one before it failed. I will try to confirm with a link
Wouldn't you get a new warranty with the replacement kettle? I'd treat it as a new appliance and consider that the earlier warranty had been cancelled as you as you returned kettle No. 1 - which would have a different serial number anyway.
Warranties aren't part of your statutory rights. They're a 'gift' from the manufacturer (or, very occasionally, from the retailer). As such, the manufacturer or retailer is free to determine the conditions that apply to the warranty. However, unless the manufacturer/retailer decides otherwise, the two-year period (from the date of purchase of the original kettle) remains in place, effectively giving you 14 months warranty on the new kettle.
Yes, the whole point of the replacement is to put you back in the position you were before the kettle failed - a working kettle with the remainder of the warranty.
The replies are correct but I get round it by asking for a credit note with the excuse that I want to upgrade then buy another kettle and then you have a new receipt and a new warranty.
