Is This Really Acceptable
16 Answers
This man appears to me to be really selfish. Why does he think it is ok to block his front door with (superb) hanging baskets and expect the postie to accommodate him.
Bad enough having to bend down (and what if everyone in the road did it?) but what about when it rains, the postie is going to get covered.
I love hanging baskets, I have 10 of them but I do ensure the pathway is clear. So I am on the side of the Postie on this one.

It is a problem to the current postie who has every right to complain if it is affecting her health, which it appears to be. The onus is on Royal Mail to support their staff and find an amicable solution which I'm sure they will.
The homeowner states that because of their age there should be no problem. What utter nonsense! Their fitness cannot be a justification.
Can you imagine him signing for a delivery? It would be like dealing with a triffid!!

The man is a pillock.
Why on earth should a postie be expected to barge through foliage or bend down to avoid his plants? In southern England it has been raining almost continuously for the past 24 hours. This bloke's hanging baskets will be soaking wet yet he expects his postie to make her way through the sodden leaves and blooms just to deliver his gas bill. Yes, the postie could bend down, but why should she, especially if she is carrying a sack of mail. Supposing she had to do that at each house?
Royal Mail are being too accommodating. His delivery service should be suspended forthwith and only restored when free and clear access to his front door becomes available again.

Is it me or is there a very clear pathway right through the middle that doesn't require bending or any kind of acrobatics to reach the front door?
The man in question is in his late 70's and there's nothing in the article to state he's a championship limbo dancer so if he can do it surely someone else who has done a manual handling course and is of good fitness and strength should be able to do it.
Rm are issued with proof trousers and jackets so brushing past bushes/trees/flowers whilst working in the rain shouldn't really be much of a problem.
Was he warned that he needs to move them or place an alternative postbox prior to the suspension or was this just a reason by a tired/lazy worker to avoid posting there possibly for another reason altogether?
Personally I have a fear of wasp and bees so this would be my biggest fear at having to deliver here if I worked for Rm posting there but if I gave that reason I could possibly be sacked.
Just food for thought.
