New Phone
8 Answers
I had to replace my very basic small Nokia phone. I bought a similar one and the sim card from the old one was put into the new phone so that i could keep the same account and number. I thought that the information from the old phone would be transferred as well but it has not. So I have lost my phone book - all names and numbers. Would a phone shop be able to access the old phone's info and transfer it? TIA

Put your sim card back into your old phone. Go into storage / settings and copy your contacts to your sim. Put your sim back into your new phone and your contacts should show up on your new phone.
Copy your contacts to your phone.... or back them up.

Can you not get hold of your old Nokia and put your sim card in it (Probably not, or you wouldn't have asked, I'm guessing)? Because it sounds like you've had the numbers stored on the Phone and not the sim card. I had a similar problem, but kept the old phone and made a paper copy of the contacts.
Can't answer the second part though. Hope you get it sorted.

Can only reiterate. Data such as a directory can be stored either on the SIM card memory or in the handset memory. Usually where the directory is stored is settable on the phone settings. It sounds as if your directory is on the handset.
If you still have it is is a faff but you can first copy whatever is presently on the SIM to the new handset. Always check it's copied before selecting but next delete all on the SIM, put it in the old handset, copy the handset data to the SIM, put the SIM back into the new phone, copy the data from the SIM to the new handset.
If you have a lot of data you may need to transfer it over a bit at a time.
Alternatively if your handsets are both capable of connecting to a PC and transferring data as backup/restore there are applications that will allow you to do this via your computer.
