Just heard that the drummer from Wonder Stuff has died following a motorbike accident. Only 41. May he rest in peace. Loved their stuff in the early nineties and his later work with Reef.

oh that's really sad. I loved The Wonderstuff...saw them play our Uni around '92 (ish). Great live band, and my mate (a wannabe drummer) thought Martin Gilks was brilliant that night. Sad news. Best wishes to family and friends.

How sad. Found a BBC News link - but the photo looks more like Lou Reed than how I remember Martin Gilks.

Seems like it's just the Four Legged Groove Machine left now, as the Bass Thing died a few years ago.

The Wonder Stuff were a great, great band in their heyday, the first two albums are great stuff, like the Kinks or ********* updated for the late 80's/early 90's. They were a really likeable bunch, and had the good sense to split up after their poor fourth album. I dunno what the latest incarnation is like, but I always thought Gilkes was their greatest musical asset, he could sound like three blokes drumming at once.

My thoughts are with his family.

Word edited begins with "Buzz" and ends with "ocks".

Damn you AB auto-edit!!!!

The Wonder Stuff have recently finished a UK tour, albeit without Martin Gilks on drums. Sadly I wasn't able to get to see them this time round (doubly annoying, as another of my favourite bands, Amsterdam, were the support act).

I've always loved The Wonder Stuff so I am very saddened by the news of Martin's passing. :-(
