The question below caused lots of debate earlier this year.
http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Quizzes-and-Puzzles/Question1335551.html

The clue was "Bets lie on this" and the answer was said to be the title of a pre-1960 film with a letter count of 5,8.

Did anyone find out what the actual answer was?

Well i messed that up.
The actual clue was Bets lie on this one and the pattern was 5,9
Question Author
And the tltle should have said pre 1960!
risky business but only 5 8
Question Author
That's what we wondered at the time mally but all the threads said 5.9. My money was on that one but there quite a few votes for Brief Encounter.
Was Risky Business the actual answer then?
Question Author
Maybe I'll never know for sure
Oh no, you've reminded me. I expect like you, I scoured the net for all the pre 60 and 80 films. Never thought Risky Business was that good an answer.
Risky Business is not pre 1960 so is not eligible surely?
So which was it Jo?
White Christmas ??? OMG
Course it is!!
Sorry Prudie, I should have said....seems obvious now lol
Question Author
Thanks. White Christmas is a great answer.
Incidentally, FrogNog, there was a Risky Business that was pre-1960 (not the Tom Cruise one)
Thank you, ff
Question Author
I just need to know the answer to this one now.

Brilliant answer.
Question Author
It'll probably turn out to be something as equally obvious (once you see the answer) as White Christmas was for this Vintage Film question
I hope so, factor. I think we might be disappointed though.
