Can anyone tell me how to convert microsoft word documents to Adobe or vice versa?

Download from the 2 links on the left and follow the instructions in the readme.
Adobe format is called PDF (portable document format).
Adobe make a product to convert Word and other formats to PDF.
There are also a number of other products (some free, some chargeable) that convert from word to PDF.
Search in Google for "PDF creator" or things like that.
Here is one (I have no idea what it is like)
The excellent OpenOffice can read and write Word files, and save them as PDF with good results.

I can't remember if it was you, fo3nix, who posted the openoffice.org link in a recent thread, but (having installed it years ago and decided it was rubbish), I decided to take a look at the current version.
I have to say I was very impressed - to the point that, although I have to have MS Office installed in order to support most of our customers, I have actually taken to using openoffice.org as my default. (Have to admit though, that I didn't realise it had a pdf capability).
