Can anyone recommend a decent hotel (ideally 4-star) in these areas that has a great pool, proximity to the sea (especially for views) and peace and quiet away from chavs and kids - for late September? Links would be welcomed

Don't go to Menorca, it's swarming with chavs and that's just the locals :-)) (ignore me, that's a private joke). Have a look at Santo Tomas. Haven't stayed in the hotel but have been to the fabulous beach many times.

Agree with prudie , santa tomas is a lovely hotel.

Hotel Bali Benalmadena Malaga. Two pools. Close to beach 5 mins. Great entertainment in the summer months. Only 1 downside, on a hill not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
