Pointless Tonight (Possible Spoiler)
58 Answers
I think the repeat edition of tonight's Pointless may be the one where one of our AB's SDDSDDEAN wins a very large jackpot with his brother. However, as the grey cells are dying fast, I may be wrong. I will be watching just in case.

Hi Simon, have just watched you and Martin winning the jackpot on u tube. You both played brilliantly throughout the programme, which really deserved to be repeated. What a *** response from the BBC to the complaints they received, talk about jobsworth, I think they invented the title and richly deserve it. Did you and Martin manage to fulfil your ambitions as outlined on the show or is it still a work in progress.
Regards Mike

Firstly to reply to epicure. Though Alexander and Richard probably have pre knowledge of the questions (though I don't know this), obviously the contestants don't. There is no script... Perhaps that shows how good Xander and Richard are at their job. You don't get paid, unless you count hotel and meals or winning the jackpot.
Mike... Although this was originally shown in Nov 2012, we recorded it in July. Martin went on a land tour of Norway in the January and did see the northern lights. He and his wife moved earlier in 2012, so he used some of the money towards improvements etc. My wife and I did an Iceland and Norwegian fjords cruise in Jul '13, but still have some spare for our next trip.

hi simon, thank you for your reply and clearing up the issue of scripted dialogue and answers. much relieved to learn this. i'm sure the bbc has taken a lot of abuse already regarding the "pixel" as opposed to the correct answer "photo cell" in the head to head. it may be that this happens more often than we know!
and of course congratulations on winning the jackpot. do you know if there will be a new series (2014) of pointless?

I think when I talked to the producer the other day, he said the new series would follow this repeated one. So that means with 70 episodes in this series it should finish on 2nd Sept and the new series should start on 3rd, but as we have all noted (and to paraphrase Stingray), anything could happen at the BBC!
Thanks Tilly! Matthew,Merv, err Mike :) I've been on a few shows in my time. If you want me to be really boring, read the list!
Bobs Full House (1987) ...should have won the holiday, but someone else was quicker on the buzzer, but got £100 and a Harrods hamper.
Telly Addicts (1989?)...with Martin, my Dad and my wife, we got beaten in the semi final by the ladies who eventually won. Got some videos and T shirts.
15-1 (1990?) If you say the last 3 are 1st, 2nd and 3rd, I came 5th in my heat.
The Crystal Maze (1992) what a couple of days! So many stories, lik Simmi faling in the Aztec river which is all steamy and hot! No it isn't!! This was filmed in November and they had to break the ice off the river the day before. We didn't win the big prize, so just got a crystal. BTW, its a lot harder than it looks in the dome, because they use orange lights and the silver tokens look gold!
Test the Nation:The Great British Test (2003) Six teams of about 30 doing the live interactive quiz with Anne Robinson and Philip Schofield. There were Tour Guides, B&B Landladies, Chefs, Record Breakers, Accountants and I was in the Truckers team. I was studio winner with a score of 63 out of 70. Got a nice glass trophy.
Pointless (2012), well you all know about that now!

Many thanks for the comprehensive explanation as to what went on with Pointless last week and also very well done for your performance which I have just watched via the links provided to YouTube.
I only knew Pointless existed 5 months ago when I retired, so like other respondents to this string I was unaware that I was watching something which was two years old and I also wasted a lot of time and heart ache searching for a missing episode on BBC iPlayer – this was made worse by the fact that we had put the program on “Series Link” because we were going to be away and did not want to miss the big jackpot going. So as we were replaying recorded episodes I was even more confused as to what was going on.
I have subsequently sent a grumpy e-mail to BBC complaining about their lack of consideration to their customers. I agree with an earlier comment that they should have replayed the episode with a disclaimer at the end. I was going to send them a message anyway but your comments gave me the necessary extra incentive.
Having said all that, I can kind of get the corporation’s resentment not to open Pandora’s Box again and finding there is something in it after all. Whilst I can fully appreciate your statement that you had excellently already chosen the lowest score on the board, I can’t help wondering how far a “no win no fee” dodgy law firm would get with the argument that - given that the answer provided by the two young contestants was “technically correct”, how are we to know how many of the hundred people in a hundred seconds actually came up with it? What if it was less than the two who named the inventor of the negative? If so, surely there would be a claim for not having the chance to go for the £20,000?
The bottom line as far as I am concerned though is that I am so pleased to have got to the bottom of why S7 EP60 was not shown.

I think I get where the BBC is coming from. If they are saying that sensor was A correct answer based on the wording of the question, it could be that only one person from the hundred questioned gave that answer or even none gave it. Although you had scored two points, the BBC had, in their opinion, wrongly disregarded any answer other than 'pixel' and had they accepted 'sensor' the other couple could have won the head-to-head if fewer than two had given that answer.
Thanks again for all of the contributions to this thread. I still believe the BBC could have handled the whole situation better than they did.
Simon and Martin richly deserved to be shown winning the largest jackpot on Pointless, at the time, and the viewers deserved to see how it was won, rather than leave than it hanging in mid air.
I did love the way that the response from the BBC in the Radio Times stated that accuracy is of the upmost importance. If only they had been more accurate with the question this problem wouldn't have arisen. Anyway, congratulations to Simon and Martin again on their worthy win.
