In the last Pop Idol a young lady called Susanne beautifully sang a song part of which is still in my mind but blessed if I know what it is called. Presumably also somebody made it famous at one time as I remember it from somewhere. Does anybody know the details, please?
I believe it was 'I don't wanna talk about it', sung by Everything But The Girl, from a good few years back. I have a feeling, too, that Rod Stewart might also have sung it.
I Don't Wanna Talk About It was written by the late, great Danny Whitten and first recorded by his band Crazy Horse in 1971. (Whitten's death the following year inspired his friend Neil Young's Tonight's The night and The Needle and the Damage Done). Rod Stewart had a UK number 1 with it in 1977; EBTG covered it in 1988; the Indigo Girls and many others have also done versions. That it should end up being schmaltzed on Pop Idol is a pretty sad state of affairs, if you ask me. Whitten's original version is magnificent: buy the original!!

Ive spent the last couple of hours searching the internet.
One of my fave albums (1977)Rita Coolidge - Anytime Anywhere has what I always considered to be the definitive
version although I didnt know who wrote or first recorded it.
I just sat down to post an answer and then I found Mikewith's answer. Thank you too. I look forward to searching for and listening to the original, and to wasting many many hours on the answerbank
Thanks, Lawrence. This is a good site which I have a look at every now and then. The quality of the answers is superb. One had a link which I followed on and through and finished up with an application form from NASA to be an astronaut and I qualified in all but a minor respect. The kids and husband would not provide references, however, as non of them can cook, clean, make beds or tidy up! So sadly I'm still earthbound. Best wishes.
