Hi - just tried to send an email of about 25 lines of typing to group recipients - 52 email contacts in total, but it just won't send - error message says too many recipients.

Is there a limit - if so how many can I send to at any one go please?

You haven't tried to put them all in the To: box, have you?

Yes Jeffa - is that wrong? I haven't sent to many all at the same time before? (bit of a novice please excuse my ignorance!) ;)
Email providers limit the number of recipients to a single email in order to prevent spammers ending out junk mail to thousands of people simultaneously.

The limits set by individual providers vary widely. Some might only allow you to send to 10 people at a time.whereas others might allow you to contact up to 250 people with a single email. Your provider clearly has a limit of below 52 but, since you've not told us which provider you're using (i.e. the bit after the @ sign in your address) we can't tell you what that limit is.
Well, just think about it! It's a HUGE invasion of privacy, as everyone can see everyone else's email address!!!

If you really must email this many people at once, put their addresses in the Bcc: box, and bear in mind that some email providers have a limit of 40 addresses per email.
The number you can send will depend on what e-mail program you are using - and maybe on your ISP as well

I'm with Talktalk and use Outlook Express 6 and Firefox .... anything else you need to know - you are all being very helpful, thanks :)
As Jeffa indicates, it's common practice to put your own address in the 'To' field and everyone else's into the 'Bcc' field, However there are times when you might actually want to share other people's email addresses, so it's not a fixed rule.

That's good to know thanks Chris x
A bit of Googling suggests that TalkTalk's anti-spam limit is 50 recipients per email.
Question Author
Ah I will take two out then and do what you suggest, put the rest in Bcc line, thanks.
If you're putting your own address in the 'To' field, you'll need to take three addresses out of the 52, since your address will add to the count!
Question Author
BINGO! ........ thanks a lot! Split the list in two lots just to be on the safe side and put them in Bcc line as you suggested.
Just proves you learn something new every day! :)
