Has anyone ever had any dealings with this company? Would you recommend them? My home insurance is due in December and I'm thinking of changing this year. I have heard both good and bad about many companies but I've heard nothing at all about LV. What is their claims service like? What are the staff like? Do they know what they are doing or is it some outpost in Bangladesh? I would like to hear from anyone with experience of LV. Thank you

We had LV for our home contents a couple of years ago and had to make a claim for a new hall, stairs & landing carpet having spilled paint on it. The claim was very straightforward, an assessor came round within a day to 2 to inspect the carpet, declared it a right off immediately, actually had the sample books with him for us to choose a similar quality carpet (80% wool) and we had the new carpet within a fortnight - they organised the fitting and we just had to pay the £100 excess. (We are back with Morethan now as they gave a cheaper quote like for like when it was time to renew.
I have just renewed mine with LV for buildings and contents after finding they were the cheapest on the price comparison site www.comparethemarket.com
My renewal came through from Axa at £223.45 yesterday morning checked the website & LV came up cheapest for exactly the same schedule at £108.20.
I think these days there are actually only a few actual insurance companies but there are lots of companies using different names to get you to sign up with them. I change all my insurances on a yearly basis when it is time for renewal making sure I am covered and go for the cheapest one.
Had a renewal quote from LV for our buildings and contents. On the comparison site the quote from LV was fifty pounds less. The young man I spoke to on the phone was polite and helpful. The online quote was honoured.
I have also had my car insurance with them for about three years.
I have never made a claim so cannot comment on that but would recommend on the service I have had.
Had our car insurance with them for over 40 years, always been excellent, both with claims and matching any better quotes we had obtained.
This is not a new fly by night organisation. It's old name was Liverpool Victoria and its origins go back more than 150 years. It is still a Friendly Society, so run for the benefit of members - a bit like Nationwide Building Society.
We have Motor / Buildings & Contents and did have Pet insurance with LV. We had an ongoing claim with the Pet Policy when my cat became ill. They paid direct to our vet, no quibbles. No problems at all.

Thank you so much one and all. I really appreciate all your help and advice and comments. I think I'll go with LV when I renew. They seem to be £120 cheaper than my present insurers (the co-op).
Again, thank you ALL so much. xx
...and, just to add, LV are one of very few Which? Recommended Providers for home insurance....along with John Lewis Insurance (which I use). John Lewis and LV gave very similar competitive quotes.
