Our church has just put out a quiz,they have
included a small square marked gift aid.If you
tick this as long as the quiz is for charity and
you have a charity no you can claim back 25%
back from the government.Something to thing
about for the future.

There's nothing new about Gift Aid

Hallo Cottack. As Quizmonkey says, this is called Gift Aid. The way it works is that, if you want to make a donation to a charity, and the charity has a registered number, the charity is able to claim back the amount of tax that you paid on the amount that you've donated. So it's the charity that gets the money, not you. First of all you have to be a tax payer, and secondly you have to indicate that you want the donation treated for Gift Aid. Hence the little square that you mention. This applies for all registered charities.

I know there is nothing new about gift aid,it`s just the first
time I have see it on a quiz and thought it might help others
raise more money for there charity.

it's not just as simple as ticking a box.
You have to pay more than the cost of the quiz and the charity claims the gift aid on that extra, eg cost of quiz£1, pay £2 and charity gets Gift aid only on the extra £1.
Entrants also have to give name, address and sign to confirm they have paid at least that amount of tax.
