Hi all,

I keep getting (about once a week) a message in a balloon at the bottom of my screen which says 'Windows- Virtual memory minimum too low'

It says something about it will automatically increase it, and I forget about it.

Is there anything I can do about it? Is it anything to worry about?

Thanks all in advance

I have the same thing with mine.?
It is probably a trick to get you to download some software that you will regret.
I used to get that message on a regular basis on my old laptop which had XP. I ignored it. It was annoying though !! I now have a new lappy with the dreaded 8.1 and the problem is solved... for the time being anyway.
hi jan why do you not like 8.1 i love it xx
Hi Cuddly. Haven't seen you on the GMEB thread for a while. xx
I'm used to 8.1 now. My wonderfully clever neighbour set it all up for me and now has it running like XP or vista. I love it now.
It isn't any sort of trick and it is pretty safe to ignore it. It was a 'feature' of XP that annoyed many users, me included. I upgraded years ago to Vista -> Windows 7 -> and now Windows 8.1.
been off work for 2 weeks so have been having a lie in, once you get used to 8.1 its great xx
Bernie, see you tomorrow on the GMEB thread?
Not much to worry about, but you can fix it quite easily.

Windows does not have to change the virtual memory settings unless it is running out of "real" memory and has nowhere to store all the additional things you are running. Consider increasing your "real" PC memory (RAM). Or don't run so much at once. Use of virtual memory will slow the PC as data is swapped into and out of the hard disk space being used as virtual memory, but if it runs out things'll crash out anyway.

Absolutely correct, but I didn't consider it worth it on an old laptop running Windows XP
If it is at all possible you should consider buying a new laptop. XP is now a very old OS and is not getting support from Microsoft any longer.
