I think this is homework where you make an observation - mold and are invited to conclude things

That is - YOU are meant to conclude things

Cheese definitely isnt sterile ( it has its own bugs )
but the mold - must have come from your fingers and not the cheese
and it takes five days to grow and become visibile

I think

Oh and that cheese is a good growing medium for some things on yor fingers and not others ( coz they didnt grow )

The order of events is touch, transfer, germination possibly, growth and visibility

OK campers I think this skool homework on scientific method - just to explain

This one is scientific induction - started with Bacon 1610 he of the frozen chicken that killed him story

ze Fransh had their own philosphy - starting with speculation - generation of hypotheses and then seeking evidence to support the theory.
In British induction you notice you collect the information first ( moldy cheese )

both methods worked - ze Fransh - Gay Lussac, Lavoisier, Diderot Champollion Cuvier all spring to mind.

The British inductive method fell foul of Hume's refutation (1800)- in short Hume asked: "whatever makes you think you can conclude things from observations ? " The only answer is that we have done it before and it seems to work. That answer is Not Good Enough for philosophers

and that is really all you need to write for an hour on Western Scientific Thought of the eighteenth century
