... this question emanates from a thread in News. Who among you has not at some time in your life been touched inappropriately by a man who was not your boyfriend/husband and whose attentions were unwelcome? I don't mean 'rape' - I mean groped.
Yes, at work in a large office in late 60s, early 70s we had a great boss who we respected and liked a good laugh with us all. Many times while we girls were standing at the filing cabinets he would creep up on us and twang the strap of our bra across our backs or stand very very close to us. Did we ever think of reporting him? No it was just a laugh, we just shouted "Aw Gerroff!" as he laughed along with us. In those days things were so different.
Yes I worked at a builders merchants when I first left school as office junior, it was mostly an all male staff....I have never told anyone about it because I didn't think they would believe me or do anything about it, things were quite different in the late 50's.
On a barge holiday, there was a guy with us who would squeeze his way through the kitchen area while we girls were preparing the evening meal. (The boys did the physical stuff during the day with the locks). He'd have a good rub with his crotch against us as he went by. Gross! Hadn't really thought about it till now. I won't be bothering the police...
Like most females of a certain age,I experienced all sorts of gropes and inappropriate sexual behaviour. I got out of it by pushing or making sure I was not in that position again. The men were always wrong, but, that was how things were then. Some moves were more sinister than others. Famous men are now in the spotlight for their particular "moves".
