Scam ?

I have received a most unusual e-mail this morning from [email protected] telling me my order total £166.59 will despatched on 05/10/2014 I have not ordered anything at all, could this be a scam.? have tried ringing telephone number provided but it is a mobile number which does not answer. It is signed. Sales dept. Kind regards, Corey Claywell. any ideas??

Good advice from PiperH, and I would also suggest: wait until the item arrives, then act accordingly. Until then, do nothing, say nothing.

Have googled web address and it appears to be a Lodging House Mission in Glasgow. hence the "lhm" ref. in the address Will ignore, most strange, !! thank you.

Giving that a Google brings up the Lodging House Mission. A Glasgow based charity dedicated to providing support to homeless, vulnerable and socially excluded people.

Hard to know for certain, because some e-mail addresses linked are like the above, but the enquiries e-mail addy doesn't have the hyphen between lhm & Glasgow.

It is a scam. Someone else has used your name and address to order items with a stolen / cloned card. Once the items have been delivered the scamers will ring / email you, pretending to be from the company who provided the items, to say it was a mistake and they will come right round to collect the items.

You don't lose out, only the company who provide the items.

If it works once they will use the same card / name & address combination to order ever more expensive items.

When it happened to me it started with some fudge and flowers, moved onto a large shed and then 8 pairs of size 9 super-stilleto shoes usually worn by transvestites.

My word sounds like something sinister, I don't think my card has been cloned, but who knows, have deleted but will be very wary of further e-mails. calls etc............. too much of a coincidence that yours, gness and mine are both for the same amount. Watch this space.

I was a bit worried because it's a clever amount.... something I could spend and who hasn't forgotten a purchase? Tempting to look and see what it was.

your card may not have been cloned. Were there any card details in the email?

It might not be YOUR card used, nellie, but if you are worried, check your statement carefully, just in case. You should never respond to emails you're not expecting about goods you haven't ordered - it's a clever phishing trick.

No card details in e-mail, just going to check bank accounts now to be on the safe side. The fact that I opened the e-mail bothers me, too late now. Thanks all.

It could just be a genuine mistake nellie, but as you haven't ordered anything, ignore it anyway. That way you can't lose
