You might need t get the rolling pin out to cut through the thing. I put a carving knife on the top and hit the knife with the rolling pin. There is no way I can cut through it otherwise.
Thanks all.....ive been cooking swede for years. I always peel it and then slice it off the centre core. I steam it, mash it up and add butter, salt and pepper and nutmeg.
I was just wondering if you could eat the skin and the centre bit....i don't peel any other vegetable and only ever peel spuds when i'm doing mash.
Think the skin's probably a bit tough for eating, but you could always try. I cook the core along with the rest of it. I've just discovered that if you mash the left-overs it freezes OK.
