We talk about "increased child poverty", "food banks", "putting illegal immigrants in London hotels on humanitarian grounds" and yet this is how some of our people lived during the 60s.
I remember the days as hc remembers them, particularly the school uniform issues. I still haven't grown into my sixth form blazer.....
I was minded of this, too, by 2sp's thread about children's presents. We would get one big present for Christmas or birthdays, then some little extras by way of Santa or the birthday fairy. By "big" I mean a nice dolly, or a scooter, or my bike the year I passed 11+. It did teach up to appreciate things.
Quite a lot, as it happens.
I attended a meeting last night with our Local bobbies and the PCSOs in this area at which Community issues are raised and reports given into how previous matters raised are being dealt with.

1980s Margaret Thatcher. Hope you weren't thinking 60's Wilson. Devaluation, strikes, beer and butties with the Unions. Drunkard George as Chancellor. Noooooo
not at all, i'm at work, its on the outskirts of a massive & very busy retail park. we often see them patrolling through. i believe its called a "police presence"...
Aog...Police do patrol. My son got stopped not so long ago (he looks really young) They wanted to know why he was out at 11pm. He had to show them his ID (he's 18)
AOG is talking about the good old days that men are being arrested for now in relation to sex abuse of children.
The days when domestic violence wasn't reported and women had to put up and shut up because they genuinely were trapped, especially if they had children.
