I have recently received an upgrade mobile phone and am looking to sell my old phone - my old phone was also an upgrade and I just inserted my O2 sim card when it arrived. Does this mean it will be locked to other networks? Is there anyway of finding this out without borrowing other peoples sim cards to try it?!

Generally, phones supplied by O2 on contract are not sim-locked unlike other providers
Borrowing a few friends' SIM cards is probably one of the easier options here!

Another thing to check is that a lot of phones (especially Nokias) can be unlocked by typing in some gunk into the handset so you could do that and see if it comes up saying that it's already " Not Restricted".

See http://unlock.nokiafree.org/
if you got a contract phone from orange or t mobile there phones are locked to their network but o2 and vodaphone that are contract are not locked to the net work.  all pay and go phones are locked to the network you brought them from
Maybe this will work., although probably not...

Take your SIM out and turn the phone on. When you get a message saying "Insert SIM" type in:

*#simlock#
(i.e. press the buttons *#7465625# ) and see if it mentions O2 as being the network it's locked to.
