I have an ipad with a kindle app. My wife now has a kindle fire. They are each registered under our separate amazon accounts so is there any way I can share my books with my wife?

Only if the Fire can download another Kindle app and register that in your name, and download your books on the Fire.
I don't know if it's possible to have 2 Kindle apps, though...worth a try...

Youcan lend books only if you sign up to Prime.
