Conned By An 86 Year Old!

I was travelling to hospital for an appointment and travelling with me was a sweet little old lady age 86. She suddenly became upset and said she had forgotten to phone her son to let him know where she was going and she was afraid he would be worried. I gallantly offered her my mobile and she had a lengthy chat with him. They were suddenly cut off and she politely asked if she could phone again. They had another lengthy chat and then she talked to her daughter in law and numerous grandchildren before handing back my phone. She then announced her son was flying home to see her later in the week.
Alarmed, I asked where her son lived and nearly died when she told me he was in Hungary. God knows what my next phone bill will be.
To add insult to injury, a few minutes later I could hear a phone ringing and she fished HER mobile from her bag to answer it. Grrrrrrr!

Possibly her family pay her phone bill so she just does not realise how much phone calls cost. Then again it does seem strange that she knew the numbers unless she had a notebook with a phone list. Stick to 'pay and go' phones much cheaper. I just put £10 a month on mine and if it runs out I just have incoming calls till next month.
Re knowing the phone numbers......in the mid stages of dementia my almost ninety year old mother couldn't remember our names....but she could reel off our addresses and phone numbers without hesitation.
The phone numbers and her own address were about the last thing to go....which meant she never got lost....and could always phone us.....hmmmm....x
