Have had some data recovered on a laptop. Have been told I can't install the operating system directly as it will overwrite the recovered files. Laptop goes straight to boot menu when switched on. What should I do?

Remove the hard drive. Connect it internally in a desktop PC as a second drive OR buy a hard drive enclosure that let's you use it as an external (USB) drive with another computer.

'Take possession' of the hard drive from the second computer (see link), access the files and copy them across to the second computer's main drive (or, for example, a USB pen drive). Reinstall the OS on the laptop.
