Weird Q Alert-Porridge And Bread Or Porridge And Potatoes???
15 Answers
Why is it whenever I eat porridge immediately afterwards I crave white buttered bread or potatoes? It's not just me as 3 friends have the same craving!
We're not pregnant and this only happens with porridge and no other carb does this.
Does this happen to you and if so why does it happen?

This is really weird as it's not a hunger feeling but more a taste craving.
I think when I next see my mother I'll ask her did she ever get a porridge and potato/bread craving when she was pregnant with me.
Wouldn't it be weird if she said yes.

I'm just watching Tell me I'm a Doctor and they were researching carbs and starch. The upshot was to cook, cool and reheat carbs such as potatoes and pasta to make them better for you. Maybe its worth trying it with your breakfast? Try cooking your porridge now and reheating it in the morning. See if it has the same effect or whether the reduction in starch takes away the craving. Worth a try? :-)
Hi H. It reduces the sugar rush since the starch changes shape on cooling. Explained here.
