I think that my sky box is on its way out. Instead of just taping a particular programme of say 30 mins it just keeps taping. When I try to get the synopsis of a programme by pressing i the box is blank. When using the gizmo after pausing a programme it sometimes jumps back to the beginning of the programme.
Can I just buy a new box or do I have to go back to Sky
Would Sky not give you a new box? I have their insurance and mine was doing stupid things like yours. All the Series Record things just kept disappearing and it had to keep searching for information when I forwarded it 24 hours.
Give them a ring and they might re-boot it for you over the phone.
As long as you are still a Sky subscriber, just report it faulty and they will replace it. But it appears that like me, you are not a customer anymore, so just buy a box on ebay.
Sky do not replace boxes like virgin do, free of charge. Unlike virgin where they own the box with sky the box belongs to the customer. Unless you take out their insurance they expect you to pay them for doing it. If you are still a customer I would try what others have said and reboot making sure that first you disconnect all cables except power one. Failing that give them a call and if they won't do it free say that you want to cancel your contract as this can often persuade them to either do it free or at a cheaper rate if they think you will go elsewhere. Always worth a try.
I have had the same problem with it carrying on recording. I unplugged and left it for a while and it seems to be ok now. Regarding pausing a programme and then jumping back to the beginning - with my box that happens only with BBC 1!
