As you know I have lost Mr Harv and today am thinking of going to an adoption shelter to have a look for a little animal in need.

Any opinions from you on - is too soon to look or give myself a bit of break to grieve Mr Harv.

gness....I was thinking of the dog............a home would be a good start.
Does it not have to be the right home, Sqad? I could take in a dog that needs a home...but it wouldn't be happy here.

they are private but Anne you wouldn't get say implants etc in NHS and and I know they wouldn't have got the time they gave to answer questions etc and for the various work they are prepared to to do.

my last dentist tried to cram a person into a half or hour time slot - then shouted NEXT NEXT really not interested in the nervous person.

Why wouldn't it be happy and how do you know?
well, I think you did well just going to the dentist, will you return and at least get some of the work done. ?
It wouldn't be happy, Sqad...because I wouldn't really want it.

I have gone from looking after a family, pets, a cattery, huge garden and houseplants to just me and my little garden....footloose and fancy free....not a potted geranium to water.....and I love it.

So, if my soft heart gave in to all the friends who still insist I need a homeless cat or a dog to keep me company I'd come to resent the tie.....x
and G is NOT sharing her bed/food/wine with any 4 legged animal !!!!!
LOL. Fair enough.
Too flippin' true, Anne.....and then I'd have to get up in the morning and do something like feed it or walk it.....

Now if a two legged variety turns up....one who could bring tea in the morning.....☺

I think this is a totally personal decision, I might want to get another one very quickly. It's not however one you have to justify if you get another dog straightaway, it's not like getting a new hubby the next day :-)
We lost our cat in September last year. We had initially decided not to have another as we were both so upset at our loss. I know people will think I was silly but I was in tears most nights and couldn't stop thinking of him. Around May this year I caught my hubby looking online at local rescue centres. In June we gave a home to 2 young cats. They are very different and still settling in. It gave me something to keep me occupied and busy. We still miss Puss and we do sometimes compare him to these. They will never replace him but will grow to be different characters and we will still love them as I am sure they will love us. We, like others have given a loving home to 2 needy cats and I am sure you will make the decision when the time is right for you to give a needy dog a loving home.
It is our life to gain and to loss things from our life. Feel so sad after reading this thread.
We lost one of our cats about 5 weeks ago. He was only 2yrs old and had been poisoned with antifreeze.
Although we were both devastated, we decided to go to a rescue shelter to adopt less than a week later. The reason being is that it simply just didn't 'feel right' with only the one feline in the house.
Many people would have taken longer to take on another pet when they said goodbye to their faithful friend, but I believe that if we had left it longer we probably wouldn't have adopted another in need at all.
As it happens, adopting another cat so soon worked out very well and we rescued two cats together who had been rescued from a farm were the farmer had an itchy trigger finger when it came to having too many ferral cats on his property.

Just do what you feel is right Jennyjoan, when the time is right - If you are questioning whether it is too soon, then perhaps it is. Think on it a bit and you'll know when you are ready. You'll just know xx
