Lets assume the average shopper uses 5 carrier bags - Is 5p per carrier bag going to deter the vast amount of shoppers ?

Nice little earner for charities though - 40 Million Pounds potentially .

Would 5p per bag deter you ? - you lose far more down the back of the settee

or the bus . ( not everyone has access to a car ) when shopping .
I find it's not the putting the bags in he car that's a problem with our customers Tilly, it's the getting bags out the car and into the shop which most are forgetting to do.
Why? I've no idea! I've been taking my own bags for years, it does become second nature, i believe it's just laziness this "constantly forgetting" malarky.

I'm willing to bet if they were a fiver a bag (as suggested on pg1) people would remember to re-use them then!
Section 14(2): Quality – The Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994 introduced the requirement that goods be of a satisfactory quality. This section of the Act applies only to sellers who are acting in the course of a business. The Act sets out a list of criteria to be met for goods to be of a satisfactory quality. In order to satisfy that test, regard must be had to the following:

• Fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied.
• Appearance and finish.
• Freedom from minor defects.
• Safety.
• Durability.

..... I wonder if "durability" means it should last at least 12 months ... if so, I bet there will be plenty claims going in.
huh?
I can understand the point if you are going shopping, but often I go out without the intention of buying anything, but do so on a sudden impulse. This is where these bags are extremely useful. I wouldn't want to walk down the street with a cucumber in my trousers.
or a cauliflower under your arm !
It would really be that much of a hassle to keep a folded carrier in your pocket blackadder for those shopping emergencies??

I think they are mean't to disintegrate, alavahalf.
Yes, it would spoil the cut of my clothes. I am nothing if not sartorially elegant.
maybe blackadder is an '' impulse shopper'' :)
Yes, he does come across as an Impulse (deodorant) type of shopper ;-)
I can count on the fingers of one finger how many times I have bought a cucumber or a cauliflower 'on impulse' :-)
fingers of one finger ? LOL
Yes, I know, but you get my drift. You don't intend to do any shopping, but as you pass a shop and look in the window, you think, "Oh, that reminds me. I'm running low on..."
cucumbers ?
Anne, the fingers of one finger........none!
