Interesting, jno. I guess, as with most interpretations of origins, you pick the one you like best. There is rarely a definitive answer is there?

you have to beware of folk etymology; POSH never did come from Port Out Starboard Home. But sometimes words and phrases do have real, verifiable origins.

I remember "nang", meaning cool, which was in vogue for a few months. Turns out she was an East End schoolgirl.
